Battery Hill Museum Entry

Three Museum exhibits to walk through. “Freedom Fortitude and Flies ” portrays life on the Tennant Creek Goldfields through photos, stories and artifacts from 1930s to the 1960s. The “McLaughlin Minerals Collection” showcases a huge range of specimens from each of the mineral groups from around Australia and the World. The “100 Years of ANZAC spirit” display follows the journey of Albert Borella, who set out walking to Darwin from Tennant Creek in 1915, to enlist for World War I. He returned to Australia as a Lieutenant. Borella was awarded with a Victoria Cross.

Battery Hill Mine Tours

The Battery Hill Gold Mining & Heritage Centre is the site of the historic Gold Stamp Battery, where it all started with the 1930’s last Australian gold rush. The centre overlooks the town and the surrounding countryside. Enjoy an underground mine tour** and the mining knowledge of your guide.

Be there 15 minutes prior to the tour start times and closed shoes must be worn.

The Battery Hill Gold Mining & Heritage Centre is the site of the historic Gold Stamp Battery, where it all started with the 1930’s last Australian gold rush! The centre overlooks the town and the surrounding countryside. Enjoy an underground mine tour**. Wander through three museum exhibits: “Freedom, Fortitude and Flies”, a look into daily life on the goldfields during the early formative years; the McLaughlin Minerals Collection, a spectacular array of mineral samples both local, and from around the world; and “100 Years ANZAC Spirit-Albert Borella VC”, a journey from Tennant Creek to Darwin and the Western Front. Self-guided nature walks and static machinery displays are found around the site!
